What is State TET?

​A State Teacher Eligibility Test (State TET) is a state-level examination conducted by individual State Education Boards or Recruitment Councils across India. It sets the mandatory qualification benchmark for candidates seeking teaching appointments in State Government, Government-Aided, and Local Body schools for Classes I to VIII.

​While the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) covers national-level and Union Territory schools, State TETs are specifically designed to align with each state’s regional curriculum, language requirements, and local educational standards.

​Key Exam Features

• ​Two Level Structure:
  • ​Paper I (Primary Level): For candidates aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 5.
  • ​Paper II (Upper Primary / Elementary Level): For candidates aspiring to teach Classes 6 to 8. (Candidates with required qualifications can choose to appear for either or both papers.)
• ​Regional Focus & Language Preference:
  • ​Exam questions frequently include the state’s official medium of instruction (such as Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, or Kokborok) as a mandatory language paper.
  • ​Pedagogy and subject modules often incorporate regional curriculum standards and state board syllabi.
• ​Pattern & Marking Scheme:
  • ​150 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 1 mark each.
  • ​No negative marking in most state eligibility tests.
  • ​Covers core areas: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I & II, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
• ​Qualifying Marks & Validity:
  • ​Qualifying Cut-off: Typically 60% for General candidates (90/150) and 55% (82/150) for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD), subject to specific state norms.
  • ​Validity: In accordance with NCTE guidelines, qualified State TET certificates are valid for life in most states.
