The Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (Assam TET) is a state-level examination conducted by the Department of School Education / Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). It establishes the essential eligibility standard for candidates seeking primary, upper-primary, and secondary teaching positions in state government and government-aided schools across Assam.

​Key Exam Structure

• ​Two Elementary Stages:
  • ​Paper I (Lower Primary): For teaching Classes 1 to 5.
  • ​Paper II (Upper Primary): For teaching Classes 6 to 8. (Special/Medium-specific TETs are also conducted periodically to fulfill regional language teacher requirements.)

• ​Exam Pattern & Marking:
  • ​150 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) for 150 total marks per paper.
  • ​Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • ​No negative marking for wrong answers.

• ​Syllabus Areas:
  • ​Paper I: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I (Assamese/Bengali/Bodo/Garo/Manipuri/Hmar), Language II (English), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.
  • ​Paper II: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II (English), and stream-based subjects (Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies).

• ​Qualifying Criteria & Validity:
  • ​General Category: Minimum 60% (90 out of 150 marks).
  • ​Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD): Minimum 55% (83 out of 150 marks).
  • ​Qualified certificates hold lifetime validity as per state and NCTE rules.
